c-RET, a proto-oncogene located on the long arm of chromosome 10, is a member of the cadherin superfamily and encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase that acts as a signal for cell surface molecules to be converted for cell growth and differentiation. The activation of RET protein will activate downstream signaling pathways (including RAS, MAPK, ERK, PI3K, AKT, etc.), leading to cell proliferation, migration and differentiation.
