Mitochondrial-targeted peptide BP29 is a mitochondria-directed iron chelator linked with a mitochondrial homing SS-peptide. It protects human primary skin fibroblasts from UV-A induced mitochondrial membrane oxidative damage, ATP depletion, and necrotic cell death. Furthermore, it prevents hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress and cytotoxicity in both healthy and Friedreich's ataxia skin fibroblasts and is applicable for research in Friedreich's ataxia.
