La peptide (LAP) acts as an internal ribosome entry site (IRES) inhibitor. It efficiently penetrates cells and obstructs the binding of cellular transcription factors to viral IRES, thereby inhibiting IRES-mediated translation. La peptide is applicable in RNA virus research, such as studies involving hepatitis C virus (HCV) and poliovirus (PV).
