Type II collagen (from rat sternal cartilage) is a highly purified collagen extracted from rat sternal cartilage. It can stimulate the immune system in animals to produce specific antibodies against this collagen. Additionally, this collagen serves as a substrate for the hydrolysis by matrix metalloproteinases (MMP).
