β-Glucosidase 1A, Thermobifida fusca (EC 3.2.1.21), is an enzyme that targets β1→4 glycosidic bonds connecting two glucose or glucose-substituted molecules, such as cellobiose. This enzyme belongs to the cellulase family, which is responsible for breaking down cellulose and related polysaccharides. Specifically, it acts as an exocellulase with specificity for various β-D-glycoside substrates. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of terminal non-reducing residues in β-D-glucosides, thereby releasing glucose.
