绿色荧光蛋白(Green fluorescent protein,GFP),是一个由约238个氨基酸组成的蛋白质,从蓝光到紫外线都能使其激发,发出绿色荧光。在细胞生物学与分子生物学中, GFP基因常用做报导基因。通过基因工程, GFP基因能稳转进不同物种的基因组,在后代中持续表达。现在,GFP基因已被导入并表达在许多物种,包括细菌,酵母和其他真菌,鱼(例如斑马鱼),植物,苍蝇,甚至人等的哺乳动物细胞。
红色荧光蛋白(Red fluorescent protein,RFP)来源于珊瑚虫,这是一种跟绿色荧光蛋白同源的荧光蛋白,在紫外光的照射下,可发射出红色荧光。
