Cardoltriene is a phenol found in cashew nut shell liquid that competitively and irreversibly inhibits mushroom tyrosinase (IC50 = 22.5 μM). It is schistosomicidal, killing 25, 75, and 100% of S. mansoni worms after 24 hours when used at concentrations of 50, 100, or 200 μM, respectively. It has been used as a starting material for the synthesis of bis-benzoxazines.
Methylcardoltriene, a phenolic compound present in cashew nut shell liquid, demonstrates α-glucosidase inhibition (IC50= 39.6 µM) and exhibits schistosomicidal properties by eliminating 100% of adult S. mansoni worms within 24 hours at 100 and 200 µM concentrations. Moreover, it serves as a precursor for synthesizing mono- and bis-benzoxazines.
