For example, it is used to synthesize derivatives such as furfural and furoic acid. These derivatives are further applied in the pharmaceutical field (e.g., in the synthesis of certain antibiotics and antiparasitic drugs) and the pesticide field (as intermediates for some insecticides and fungicides). It can also be used to synthesize resins, rubber additives, fragrances and so on. In addition, derivatives of furan (such as tetrahydrofuran) are commonly used organic solvents.
