Polymorphisms at this locus may be associated with severity of aminoglycoside-induced deafness, a disease associated with a mutation in the 12S rRNA. 功能
The GTPBP3 is the mitochondrial GTPase evolutionarily conserved from bacteria to mammals. GTPBP3 is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues. GTPBP3 localizes in mitochondrion. The human GTPBP3 is a deafness associated homolog of yeast MSS1. The allelic variants in GTPBP3 could modulate the phenotypic manifestation of human mitochondrial A1555G mutation. GTPBP3 may be involved in the 5 carboxymethylaminomethyl modification (mnm(5)s(2)U34) of the wobble uridine base in mitochondrial tRNAs.
