Tetrahydrobiopterin is an essential cofactor for 3 aromatic amino acid monooxygenases: phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan hydroxylases. Animals can synthesize tetrahydrobiopterin in vivo from GTP through several enzymatic reactions. |
