组织特异性Expressed in prostate and liver. According to some authors, it is not expressed in brain (PubMed:19094056). According to others, weak levels of expression are measured in some brain locations (PubMed:19359404 and PubMed:18545703). Also expressed in epithelium of the small intestine and large intestine, bile duct, nasal mucosa, kidney, adrenal cortex, epithelium of the gastric mucosa with intestinal metaplasia, gallbladder, intercalated ducts of the pancreas, chief cells of the parathyroid and the corpus luteum of the ovary (at protein level).

研究背景CYP3A proteins are P450 monooxygenases and in animals, P450 enzymes serve two major functions: biosynthesis of steroids, fatty acids and bile acids, and the metabolism of endogenous and exogenous substrates. A wide variety of exogenous substrates are metabolized by P450 enzymes, including toxins and drugs. The four major families involved in drug metabolism are CYP1, 2, 3 and 4. The hepatic CYP3A1 protein is detected throughout ciliated and nonciliated cells in seven-day-old rats, and is only detected in the apex of these cells in adult rats. Rat CYP3A1 and CYP3A2 share 89% homolgy, but differ by three out of five of their C-terminal residues.

Cytochrome P450 3A4 [human-3A1 Rat] is abundantly expressed in liver and small intestine and is inducible by barbiturates, glucocorticoids and rifampicin.
