代谢
新陈代谢是生物体中维持生命的一系列化学反应。代谢的化学反应被组织成代谢途径,其中一种化学物质通过一系列步骤转化为另一种化学物质,每一步都由一种特定的酶促进。酶对新陈代谢至关重要,因为它们使生物体能够驱动所需的反应,这些反应需要能量,而这些反应本身不会发生,通过将它们与释放能量的自发反应结合起来。酶就像催化剂一样——它们可以使反应更快地进行——它们也可以调节代谢反应的速度,例如对细胞环境的变化或来自其他细胞的信号作出反应。
