Azure B (Standard) is the standard of Azure B (T18918), suitable for research related to quantitative analysis, quality control, and biochemical experiments. Azure B is a phenothiazine cationic dye and the key active metabolite of methylene blue in vivo. It has two main application directions: as a core component of Romanowsky-Giemsa stain, forming charge-transfer complexes with Eosin Y on target substrates, producing a purple color in stained biological samples (the "Romanowsky-Giemsa effect"), which is a key mechanism for identifying cells and pathogens in fields such as hematopathology and microbiology; and as a potent, reversible, and selective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) (IC50 = 11 nM for human recombinant MAO-A, 968 nM for MAO-B).
