神经营养因子 (Neurotrophins) 是一类能诱导神经元存活、发育和功能的蛋白质。它们属于一类生长因子,是分泌的蛋白质,可以向特定细胞发出生存、分化或生长的信号。促进神经元存活的神经营养因子等生长因子被称为神经营养因子。神经营养因子由靶组织分泌,并通过阻止相关神经元启动程序性细胞死亡而起作用,从而使神经元存活。神经营养素还能诱导祖细胞分化,形成神经元。尽管哺乳动物大脑中的绝大多数神经元都是在出生前形成的,但成年大脑的某些部分(例如海马体)仍保留着从神经干细胞中生长新神经元的能力,这一过程被称为神经发生。神经营养素是一种有助于刺激和控制神经发生的化学物质。
