人类免疫缺陷病毒(human immunodeficiency viruses,HIV)是感染人类的两种慢病毒(逆转录病毒的一个亚群)。随着时间的推移,它们会导致获得性免疫缺陷综合症。HIV 感染人体免疫系统中的重要细胞,例如辅助性 T 细胞(特别是 CD4+ T 细胞)、巨噬细胞和树突状细胞。HIV感染通过多种机制导致CD4+ T细胞水平降低,包括感染失败的T细胞焦亡,未感染的旁观者细胞凋亡,病毒直接杀死感染细胞,以及识别感染细胞的CD8+细胞毒性淋巴细胞杀死感染的CD4+ T细胞。
